Gillingham Lions Club started the Young Citizenship Awards about 20 years ago when one of our members was a past Junior School Headteacher. The first two schools involved were Hempstead Juniors and St Margarets Juniors.
The principal aim is to reward young people who have gone the extra mile in school, at home, or in the community, not academically but environmentally, friendship, personal support or other caring reasons.
The recipient is normally chosen by their peers with the help and guidance of the teachers.
We are happy to provide framed certificates for one boy and one girl in each age group.
I would anticipate receiving a list of names by the end of June to give us time to create the certificates and they would be presented at a mutual time before the end of term.
